Leon's spinal muscular atrophy was diagnosed just two weeks after birth, thanks to a screening test. Initially, his parents were very frightened, confused and lost, but with the support of other parents, they quickly moved from despair to action mode. They realised how much the screening had given them - it enabled them to find out about Leon's condition before any symptoms appeared and they were able to start treatment that would allow Leon to develop in the same way as healthy children.
